«I understood the true importance of things, and how something I do every day in my job could change someone’s life.»

Tamara Iglesias
GAES Fuencarral – Volunteer in collaboration with Casa del Tíbet

The day I stepped into Mcleod Ganj (Dharamsala), I couldn’t believe I was actually there, loaded with all the gear, my hearing aids, and an enormous desire to help.

We visited many places: monasteries, a school, a residence, and met with the local community. I will never forget the smiles that welcomed us, and that enthusiasm was contagious every time I entered a place.

I thought I was going there to help, but I quickly realized that they were the ones helping me. I understood the true value of things, and how something I do every day at work could change someone’s life.

To this day, I still don’t know how to process some of the emotions I experienced. There were tough moments, special cases that tugged at your soul a little more—if that’s even possible. I’ve grown as a person, and I’m deeply grateful to the Foundation for the opportunity, and to the people of Dharamsala for teaching me so much. All I can say is: «Thuk je che».
