«Anantapur teaches you the value of humanity. It shows you that, in the end, we are all human beings who long for a certain happiness and stability, and they have a way of appreciating life with the little they have.»

GAES Sestao – India, in collaboration with the Vicente Ferrer Foundation

The experience in India with Fundación GAES Solidaria, in collaboration with the Vicente Ferrer Foundation, was unbeatable. From the moment I found out I would be part of the project, I had huge excitement and expectations for the volunteer trip—but once you live it, not only are those expectations exceeded, they are surpassed in ways that are indescribable.

I was fortunate to do this volunteer work alongside an exceptional and unique colleague—Carmen from Oviedo. Any adjective I use to describe her would fall short professionally, but even more so personally. A teammate who was a perfect match for such a powerful experience.

Professionally, I learned many lessons to apply in my daily practice, from programming to follow-up details and, above all, in how to treat people—especially children.

But without a doubt, the greatest learning came on a personal level. Anantapur teaches you the value of humanity. It shows you that, in the end, we are all people who long for happiness and stability. And they, with the little they have, have a way of valuing life that is truly inspiring. They are deeply happy and spread that joy and energy to everyone around them. And when it comes to children, that joy multiplies. With nothing, they were joyful—and their happiness was contagious, which is even harder to achieve.

It’s an experience worth repeating—however, whenever—but repeating. Since we left, all we can think about is returning someday. And I’m sure we will.”
