Seeing the smile of a child hearing their name for the first time is the most wonderful gift.

GAES Tudela – Cape Verde with Fundación Clarós
When I was offered the chance to go to Cape Verde and volunteer with GAES Solidaria, I didn’t hesitate—and I couldn’t be more satisfied with that decision. What I experienced there was the most beautiful and rewarding experience I’ve ever had.
During the trip, I felt a mix of emotions. On one hand, I felt powerless—faced with situations where I couldn’t do anything, or because I couldn’t help everyone. But above all, I felt immense gratitude. Seeing a child or an elderly person smile when they hear their name for the first time, or the tears in a parent’s eyes when their child turns their head after being called—those are the most wonderful gifts.
It’s amazing how much you can learn from people who have so little, yet whose hearts are so rich in kindness.
I was also lucky to work with a local audiologist from Cape Verde, with whom I instantly connected. She helped me with the language and made this journey even more incredible. I know that the people I fitted are in the best hands—she’s truly a miracle of a person.
The medical team from Fundación Clarós was also outstanding—always helping and working together as one great team.
A thousand thanks to GAES Solidaria for sharing this beautiful experience with me.
